Can I Talk About The Internet Without Mentioning MFM?

Is it bad to say that Tiktok and Youtube are two of the most used apps in my personal and work life? Next to google docs, I spend a surprising amount of my work week planning and coming up with ideas for the next promo video we're going to make. When I get home, I like to listen to My Favourite Murder while I cook and get other things done around the house.

Short blurb on MFM:

This is not at all relevant, but it is my blog and therefore I am going to go on for a little bit about how much I love this podcast. I am a new listener (within the past year) and I have listened to over 150 of the podcasts. These ladies are truly some of my favorite people to listen to. I enjoyed true crime before, but I was never as invested. I think my investment is more so due to the hosts Karen and Georgia and how loving the podcast truly feels. Having these two chat has made the commute in and out of Regina less boring and I always feel like I am learning something new.

This week however, has been a strange week as I started my week not feeling great (iykyk) and spent an embarrassing amount of time on Sunday binging Lucifer. So my screen time usage was higher than usual. I average about 8-9 hours a day on my phone, and would say that about half of this time is on Youtube listening to white noise to fall asleep.

I would like to think that I could add another hour for work related things (social media is a very fun part of my job) or using it for yoga, piano or one of my other hobbies, but the rest is mindlessly scrolling or playing dumb games. I am terrible for using my phone in situations where I don't want to talk to people, like in the hallways before class.

I would love to grow in this area, so if you have any tips that would be great! Also, check out MFM if you haven't already listened, I'll link one of my current favorite's at the end if you want a good listen.

My work (not on social media) consists of three primary tools:

Any online work I do is primarily in these systems, excluding the time I spend looking on the internet or social media for ideas.

Canva is my primary source for all things creative, I finish most videos, posts and creative charts in Canva. I also use it to create learning materials for courses or seminars in this too. I'm not sure that Canva is the best platform, but I have been using it since high school and am most familiar with it. I am also a fan of Canvas built in tools that make projects look more professional with minimal work.

I also use the bottom two for the majority of my school work, and find the shareability of both to be a factor in my continued usage. I may have filled up an entire google accounts worth of work... and an entire one shared with my friends that is just documents that say "beans" repeatedly. I am totally team google docs, all the way.

Gosh, I also use Canva, but I started when I was in elementary school! Back then, it didn't have the fancy, brilliant features it has now. It used to only serve as a poster-making tool, but now, you can create all sorts of presentations, and documents with it too. As someone who was taught to use Microsoft programs in school, the day my access was denied was the day I stumbled onto Google Docs, and not exaggerating, my life changed. It is so much more simple.

Thanks for the podcast recommendation by the way. 😄
