This weeks learning project was unexpectedly useful. I have been exploring Audacity as an audio exploration and editing tool for creating new songs with better audio quality.
Audacity is an open source platform that is free to use. I love free! Most of the features are very easy to use with a little bit of clicking around and trial and error. I've used audacity before, but planned to use it for this weeks project more in depth.
Did that happen... No. Instead I helped with my former schools production of High school Musical. I was helping with audio for the production, along an amazing Audio Engineer from the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre. I was able to learn more about balancing sound and what features to look for in editing my audio files and why it is so important to have files split into parts.
So this was my office for the week:
I was their from 4:45 to 10:00 every night, so not much application of my learning happened, but man was I immersed in the world of audio mixing from multiple tracks. (5 orchestra and 25 live mics) and feel like I will take a lot of this knowledge into next week where I hope to work my own tracks into a complete edited audio file.
Hello!
It's great that you got to experience sound mixing hands on like that! What a cool experience. As someone who's only ever been on the other side of the mic, I have no idea what working sound feels like.
